fisherman

One of my favorite things about this painting is watching the immediate response people give it. It is a wide spectrum of emotions I have witnessed and isn't as consistent as with other painting.

Carrie Mae

A painting I did of my grandmother, Carrie Mae Gooch. I used one of her grade school pictures. She used to tell me about how her mom would make her sit for hours while doing her hair up in rollers until she looked like Shirley Temple. She hated getting her hair down like this. I always loved her grade school pictures and wish I could have known her at that age.
I started on a painting about three years ago. I worked tirelessly on the painting for about month, hoping to clearly capture my feelings about the concept. I became frustrated with the direction that entire piece was heading and one night after being at the studio for far to long, did a white wash over the entire piece. I shoved it in closets and under beds, hoping to one day try again. So I recently uncovered and plan on finishing the piece. I am very eager to get started and know i will be able to fully translate my emotion.

i'm just so proud to be here

it took one last time

oh jean, it happens to everyone

This painting was inspired by a story that my friend told me about her sister growing up.

So I am currently working on a painting that will be donated to "Art From the Heart", which is a fundraiser created by Studio by the Tracks. Last year I donated an older piece that I thought would appeal to the masses. I am pretty excited about this particular piece for many reasons. One being that is was created specifically for this fund raiser. Another reason i an excited about this piece, is because I am going to be collaborating with my boyfriend, Chad. This is my first collaborative piece and it is an unfamiliar thrill ,that could possibly be contributed by my OCD, to spend a tremendous amount of time getting all aspects of the painting how to image and then simply handing it over for a person to add whatever they want. I am looking forward to the finish product.

"he told me it was just its nature"

This painting was inspired by a book that was written by an author from Alabama. I was reading a particular paragraph and it took hold. It was a powerful statement that was expressed in such simplicity

"rooted by twine"

The finished piece. This piece discussed the bittersweet cycle of the distribution of personal struggles onto the family.
